Reporting Incidents
Red card, match official abuse and match abandonment forms should be reported in the first instance to Ian Farrell. Refereeing society injury report forms should be reported to James Fisher. Contact details available through WhosTheRef. Reporting disciplinary incidents promptly to the correct individual streamlines the process, ensures the correct people are informed and helps the Society to support referees.
The reporting time window for submission of Red Card reports is as follows:
| Match Type | Match Day | Reporting Deadline |
| ADULT | SATURDAY | SUNDAY BY 6.00PM |
| ADULT | SUNDAY | MONDAY BY 6.00PM |
| ADULT | WEEKDAY | BY 6.00PM ON DAY 2 POST GAME |
| AGE GRADE | ANY DAY | WITHIN 48 HOURS POST GAME |
Match Abandonment and Serious Injury reports must be submitted by 6.00pm on the first day after the match.
Further information on reporting requirements can be viewed on the January 2025 training slides.
World Rugby Law 9 Foul Play offence numbers can be located via the World Rugby Passport – 9 Foul play.
The England Rugby Discipline Forms and Guidance page has additional guidance on writing reports.
Getting Help
Experiencing and dealing with disciplinary issues can be one of the toughest aspects of officiating, whatever the circumstances. It is often a good idea to talk things through with another referee and the society would encourage all members to view our mental health page as a starting point.
